Moeraki Boulders

2007 Dec 17th

MOERAKI BOULDERS – between Dunedin to Mt Cook

Facts: - The Moeraki Boulders are large perfect round stones that are lying around the sandy beaches. Believed to be formed in ancient sea floor sediments thru a process similar to the formation of oyster pearls, where layers of fossil shell, bone fragment, or piece of wood cover a central nucleus core. Which grew into perfectly spherical shapes up to three metres in diameter.
